Glasgow Rangers slipped to yet another defeat, their third in succession, with Napoli defeating them 3-0 at Ibrox in the Champions League.

Following two 4-0 thrashings in the space of a week, the Light Blues were looking to stop the rot and claim a positive result against the Serie A leaders.

A bright first half from the home side, with Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield both going close with efforts, and the defence preventing any goals, although Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski hit the post, the sides went in at the interval all square.

The second period saw Rangers unravel.

Allan McGregor did manage to save two penalties, however. James Sands was sent off for tripping Giovanni Simeone, with Zielinski having his effort saved by the 40-year-old, Matteo Politano scored the rebound. VAR intervened and the penalty was ordered to be retaken, with McGregor making his second penalty save of the evening.

Borna Barisic handballed in the area and yet another spot kick was awarded, this time with Politano scoring and it was downhill from here for the Ibrox side. further goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Tanguy Ndombele sealed all three points and leaves Rangers bottom of the group.

Despite Sands receiving a second yellow card in the 55th minute, Arfield was the player who badly let the Dutchman against Napoli.

He received a woeful rating of 6.4 on SofaScore for his display, with his experience clearly not helping the side during a match they simply had to get a result in ahead of two tough clashes against Liverpool.

Arfield had only 31 touches during his 73 minutes on the pitch 13 fewer than the Gers goalkeeper, evidently proving to hardly be in the game, while successfully completing only 11 passes.

The Scot won only two of his nine duels, lost possession 14 times, and was dribbled past twice in a terrible night at the office. His experience should have given the team some solidity in the centre of the pitch but he was regularly overrun by a vibrant Napoli forward line and it cost Rangers dearly.

No doubt about it, Van Bronckhorst is under pressure now, with a tie against Dundee United on Saturday, another negative result will surely have the Ibrox faithful calling for his head come Monday morning.
