Rangers: Ibrox club have “made contact” with Sean Dyche

An update has dropped regarding the vacant Glasgow Rangers managerial position…

What’s the news?

According to one journalist close to the matter, Rangers have made contact with Sean Dyche about bringing him to Ibrox.

Taking to Twitter, they said: “Rangers have made contact with Sean Dyche amongst others I’m told. Dyche would be superb at Rangers as I’ve suggested before.”

Dyche worked with Ross Wilson during their time together at Watford and the 51-year-old recently admitted that he would be open to taking a managerial job outside of the Premier League, and this could potentially open a door to a move to Glasgow.

Better than Peter Bosz

It only took a few hours since Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked that names were being linked with the club, and former Lyon manager Peter Bosz was one such name.

The Dutchman has won just one honour in his career, a Dutch second-tier title with Heracles Almelo, and a points-per-match average of 1.57. Considering he has managed European heavyweights in Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, and Lyon, this is disappointing to say the least.

Dyche on the other hand, despite having a PPM average of 1.34, has managed to keep Burnley in the Premier League for five consecutive seasons, regularly overperforming in the top flight on a shoestring budget.

The 51-year-old has his teams extremely well drilled, although his direct style might not be easy on the eye, it does get results and has worked to a decent effect in England, notably during his spells in the Championship, with Burnley winning the title in 2016.

The Englishman’s style is certainly more effective defensively compared to Bosz’s, with teams managed by Dyche conceding 611 goals in 474 matches, while in 558 matches, the Dutchman has overseen his sides conceding a whopping total of 814 goals.

Can you guess this current Rangers star from his career record?

There is no doubt that Dyche would be able to adapt to Scottish football much more quickly than Bosz and this could be another advantage the Englishman holds over other candidates. Furthermore, his ability to maximise a team’s potential while working with little finances also bodes well should a move north of the border occur.

Noel Whelan suggested that Dyche would be a “stunning appointment” for the Ibrox side due to his success at Burnley and it certainly appears to be a logical choice for many of the supporters.

If he got up to speed quickly, the ex-Clarets manager would make sure Rangers worked hard and were well-organised, which is something the club has been lacking this season.
