Rangers were heavily linked with a move for KV Oostende striker Fashion Sakala and, if recent reports are to be believed, Steven Gerrard has just been handed a huge boost in his hopes of bringing the in-form attacker to Ibrox this summer.

It was suggested by the Daily Record back in January that Rangers were eyeing a pre-contract deal for the Zambia international, who looks set to leave the Belgian Pro League side this summer when his contract expires.

It now looks as if Rangers' hopes of securing the 24-year-old have been handed a significant boost, with the Daily Record also suggesting that Sakala would prefer a move to Ibrox than to French side Lille, who are also seemingly taking an interest in him ahead of the summer.

In 28 league appearances this season, the striker has contributed 13 goals and two assists, which has helped him average a solid 6.80/10 WhoScored rating for his performances.

Given that the likes of Jermaine Defoe and Greg Stewart look set to depart Ibrox this summer when their contracts expire, whilst Cedric Itten hasn't really hit the heights thus far, adding more depth up front seems like the sort of business Rangers should be looking to do in the summer transfer window.

Sakala therefore seems like an ideal option, as he would be available on a free transfer and is reportedly keen on the idea of a move to Ibrox, so Ross Wilson should definitely look to bring him in.

The 24-year-old's impressive form was saluted earlier in the season by former teammate Toby Sibbick, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Oostende from Barnsley. He said: “I’m sure Fashion would be a great addition for Rangers. Fashion has a lot of pace and is direct on the ball.

“He can play as the main striker but also out wide and I know having played against Rangers last season they play with a front three so he can fill in on either wing because he likes to get on the ball and beat players one on one.

“He is quite tricky as well and is good in front of goal with the ability to finish with both feet, there’s no issue with that. He is powerful - not necessarily tall - but strong and quick so there’s a lot to his game."

Therefore, it seems as if Sakala would be an excellent addition to Gerrard's side this summer, so Wilson must try and deliver him to Ibrox.
