Rangers are reportedly close to securing an agreement with promising striker Robbie Ure regarding a new contract, following the teenager's recent emergence at first-team level.

What's the word?

According to journalist Pete O'Rourke - speaking to GIVEMESPORT - the Old Firm outfit are set to tie the 18-year-old down to a new deal sooner rather than later, with negotiations currently underway regarding fresh term.

He stated:

"Talks are at an advanced stage, I think, between the club and Robbie Ure, so I fully expect this one to get done.”

This follows reports from earlier this month which suggested an extension could well be imminent, with the academy starlet currently having just under a year remaining on his existing deal at Ibrox.

It may well be early days in the centre forward's Gers career, although on recent evidence Ure could well be set for a promising future with the Scottish Premiership, having impressed both at senior level and in the youth ranks to date.

The Glasgow-born starlet has provided five goal contributions in just ten games for the club's 'B' team thus far, while he also netted on his solitary appearance for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side in the League Cup triumph over Queen of the South at the end of August.

While something of a "late bloomer" - in the words of journalist Jordan Campbell - the highly-rated prospect appears to have caught the eye of the former Feyenoord boss, with more first-team chances potentially on the horizon.

The impressive marksman only recently netted in the UEFA Youth League triumph over Napoli, with journalist Joshua Barrie lauding the youngster for his "excellent" performance, having been the "standout" figure against the Italian outfit.

A star at youth level, the real challenge will now be to make that leap to becoming a regular in Van Bronckhorst's side, albeit with the club having a history of favouring their academy talents.

That is the case with one-time youth product Steven Naismith, with the now-retired gem forcing his way from being a mere promising talent into a regular starter at the club, via a spell at Kilmarnock.

Also a forward - like Ure - the former Scotland international went on to rack up 132 appearances during his five-year stint in the senior set-up, scoring 33 goals and laying on 30 assists in that time.

The 5 foot 10 menace notably helped Rangers to three successive league titles between 2008 and 2011, winning the club's player's player of the year award and supporters' player of the year award at the end of the 2010/11 campaign.

Although he somewhat soured his time at the club after leaving in 2012 amid the Gers' financial struggles, his impact at the club is no doubt there for all to see, with the hope being that Ure can also become a leading presence in the years to come.
