Rangers have a big week ahead of them, with two more matches coming up before they are next in Premiership action.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men have a Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday, followed by the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.

With these big games coming thick and fast for the Gers, it seems as though they could see an important figure return to action in time for their midweek showdown against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

What's the news?

Speaking in his recent press conference ahead of tomorrow's cup clash against Dundee, Van Bronckhorst gave an update regarding the fitness of Gers midfielder Scott Arfield, who was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge in the 1-0 win over Aberdeen a few weeks ago.

He said: "Hopefully we will see Scott (Arfield) back on the training field in the next few days and he should be available for the return leg in Belgrade."

Since arriving at Ibrox in 2018 on a free transfer from Premier League club Burnley, the midfielder has gone on to make 175 appearances for the Gers, chipping in with 33 goals and 18 assists in the process.

Having played in 35 games across all competitions so far this season, the 33-year-old is clearly seen as a pivotal figure for Van Bronckhorst's side.

Fans will be delighted

With five goals to his name so far this term, and having shown how versatile he can be for the team by playing in numerous positions across the pitch, it's safe to say that plenty of Rangers fans will be very happy to see the Canadian back in the squad for Thursday's clash.

If Arfield can make a full recovery and be available for selection in midweek, this would surely be a big weight off Van Bronckhorst's shoulders in terms of his team selection by having another option at his disposal.

If the veteran can bag his first Europa League goal of the campaign and potentially help the team secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition, he would show everyone at the club how important he can be when the stakes are growing increasingly higher.
