Glasgow Rangers may have just crushed their arch-rivals Celtic in a comfortable 2-0 win at Parkhead, but a certain star could soon be giving Steven Gerrard sleepless nights if recent reports are to be believed..

What's the word?

Former Tottenham and England striker Darren Bent claims Ryan Kent may turn down a new contract at Ibrox because he could earn "double his money" in the Premier League.

Reports in recent times had suggested that Rangers were ready to offer the 23-year-old a bumper new deal amid interest from Leeds United.

But Bent believes that a lucrative offer from elsewhere might prove too tempting for the highly-rated left winger to ignore.

He told Football Insider: “The money in the Premier League is a lot bigger than the money in the Scottish Premier League and that’s where the difficulty lies.

“He might get a contract at Rangers that might be a good contract but he knows that he can potentially double his money in the Premier League and it’s the most coveted league in the world."

Every right to be concerned?

It's claimed that the club are willing to give him wages worth £28,000-per-week, which would make him one of their highest earners in the process.

The trouble is that this isn't exactly an awful lot of money for a professional footballer, let alone a player who possesses such obvious potential. For instance, Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is only one year older than his countryman, currently earns a salary with wages worth £40,000-a-week.

Kent's current contract is set to expire in 2023, so the Gers must convince him to sign an extension and increase. However, he made it clear that he wanted to stay with the 54-time Scottish champions in the summer, which should go some way towards allaying the fears of some supporters, for the time being at least.

Whether or not Rangers chief Ross Wilson will be able to get him to agree to a new long-term deal is another matter altogether. If Leeds once again come calling in the winter transfer window, who knows what will happen, as he may be unable to resist the lure of a wage rise and the chance to play in the Premier League.

The ever-reliable winger was recently described as being “on fire” by his teammate Scott Arfield, whilst he was once hailed as a "wonderful player" by Jurgen Klopp. This season, the £3.15m-rated Rangers ace has made 11 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, scoring four goals and supplying one assist so far, whilst averaging 3.2 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Meanwhile, Ianis Hagi has only mustered one goal and five assists, whilst taking2.6 shots, 1.6 key passes, and averaging fewer than one dribble per game, via WhoScored.

One thing is for sure, the Gers must fight to keep Kent at all costs. Sorting out his £20m release clause would be a good start.

AND in other news, Rangers must watch out for Standard Liege’s Mehdi Carcela in Europa League...
