An update has emerged on Rangers beast Glen Kamara, regarding interest in the Ibrox midfielder's services this month...

What's the talk?

According to the Scottish Sun, Aston Villa are considering a bid for the Gers central midfielder as Steven Gerrard is keen on a reunion this season.

The report claims that Everton, Newcastle and Southampton are also keen on the ex-Dundee United man, although it remains to be seen how much Rangers are prepared to demand for him.

Disaster

Gio van Bronckhorst is facing a big disaster as fans will surely be infuriated if the club end up cashing in on Kamara this month. The midfielder signed a new contract in September 2021 and to sell him in the very next window would not be a sign of intent from the Gers that they are willing to fight to keep hold of their top performers.

They have already sold Nathan Patterson to Premier League side Everton for a club-record fee and this suggests that there is no financial pressure to sell Kamara, as they have raked in the money for their academy product to fund any signings they want to make this month.

The Dutch head coach cannot allow the midfielder to leave before the end of the window as it would send out the wrong message to supporters about their intentions this season. They will surely need their top performers to achieve success domestically and in Europe and Kamara is one of them.

Neil McCann, his former manager at Dundee United, previously lauded the Finland international's talents. He said of Kamara: “He isn’t a big, physical lad but he’s made of iron and really strong. I knew immediately that he could handle the ball under pressure and not give it away, so he was perfect.

"He’s a special talent. He’s lightning-quick but he doesn’t show it. He’s a player who takes instruction well."

The £21k-per-week gem has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 7.07 in the Premiership this season. He has completed 91% of his attempted passes and created 1.6 chances per game, showing how effective he is with the ball at his feet and that he has performed consistently to a high level throughout the campaign.

This is why it would be a disaster for the club to sell him to Aston Villa this month and why fans would be frustrated if he were to depart. Van Bronckhorst is in a difficult situation and must work hard to avoid losing the 26-year-old to Villa if an offer comes in.
