Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window as Todd Cantwell appears set to arrive at Ibrox.

Michael Beale looks poised to bring the attacking midfielder in as his first piece of business since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in Glasgow and the gem may not be the last arrival of the month.

Sunday Mirror editor Darren Witcoop recently claimed that the Light Blues are "watching" developments with QPR centre-forward Lyndon Dykes, who is expected to depart from the Championship side before the end of the window.

The 27-year-old marksman worked with Beale at Loftus Road and could be an excellent addition to the Gers squad as his pre-existing relationship with the head coach could help him to hit the ground running.

Dykes already knows exactly what the English boss wants from his side and has prior experience of playing in Scotland as he plundered 14 goals and ten assists in 36 appearances for Livingston and played 136 matches for Queen of the South earlier in his career.

The Scotland international, who joined QPR for £2m from Livingston in 2020, could, therefore, be an ideal January signing as a lack of pre-season would not be as much of an issue for him, given that he does not need to adjust to Beale's tactics or Scottish football.

Dykes, who Alan Hutton once dubbed a "focal point", could also form a dream partnership with potential fellow new signing Cantwell as the pair should know each other from playing in the Championship and the Canaries maestro could be the man to provide the forward with the chances that he needs to score.

The English playmaker created one 'big chance' and 20 chances in total in nine Championship starts during the first half of the season for Norwich. He also produced seven 'big chances' and 53 key passes in 30 starts for the Yellows in the 2020/21 campaign, which shows that the gem is able to regularly create presentable opportunities for his teammates.

Cantwell could be the player to supply Dykes with the passes and crosses that the marksman needs to be a success at Rangers, as the 27-year-old has showcased his quality in the final third in the past.

The Scottish finisher scored six goals in 21 appearances for QPR under Beale's management and was directly involved in 19 goals in 28 matches for Livingston in the Premiership earlier in his career.

Therefore, Dykes and Cantwell could be a dream duo signing for Rangers this month as they could link-up to deliver goals and assists on a regular basis in the Scottish top-flight if they are able to hit their top form under the English head coach's management.
