Michael Beale has less than a week remaining in the January transfer window to make any further additions to his Glasgow Rangers squad heading into the second half of the campaign.

The Light Blues boss made his first signing in charge of the Ibrox giants by working with Ross Wilson to bring attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell in on a permanent basis from Norwich.

Rangers could explore the English market again to add to their squad before the end of the month, whether that means signing a player on a permanent deal or on a pre-contract ahead of next season.

Journalist Alex Crook revealed in late December that the Light Blues are eyeing up Everton shot-stopper Asmir Begovic for a summer move to Ibrox.

The experienced goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season, which means that the Gers could snap him up on a pre-contract deal in the coming days, or they could wait until the summer to negotiate a free transfer to Scotland.

Al-Nassr, who recently signed Cristiano Ronaldo, have had an offer rejected by the Toffees and are expected to make another bid for the Bosnian, as per journalist Mark McAdam.

This means that Rangers do have competition for the veteran's signature, and that is why Beale and Wilson must sign Begovic to a pre-contract deal in the coming days, as it could be crucial to winning the race for his signature.

Allan McGregor's deal at Ibrox expires in the summer, and the Everton ace could arrive as a dream replacement for the 40-year-old and form an exciting Rangers goalkeeping department with Robby McCrorie for the 2023/24 campaign.

At the age of 24, McCrorie is a young goalkeeper with potential who could be the future number one at Ibrox if he can develop and improve his game, and the prospective signing of a player with vast Premier League and international experience could help his growth.

The Rangers academy graduate has shown signs of promise at first-team level - keeping a clean sheet against Celtic in the Premiership last season - and having Begovic as a mentor could help him to take the next step into becoming a regular in the team.

Begovic, who was once hailed as the "ultimate professional" by his former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, has been capped 63 times by Bosnia at international level and racked up 256 Premier League appearances, including one (in which he kept a clean sheet) this season.

The 6 foot 7 colossus also caught the eye as a regular starter for Bournemouth in the Championship in 2020/21 as he averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.99 and kept 15 clean sheets in 45 appearances, which shows the level of quality that he could provide to Rangers.

Imagine Begovic as the short-term number one and McCrorie as his number two, learning from the Bosnian and developing his game to eventually take over as first-choice at Ibrox.
