Glasgow Rangers head into the break for the 2022 World Cup in a precarious position as they are nine points off the top of the Premiership.
The Light Blues have fallen a significant distance behind their rivals in the Scottish top flight and have already been knocked out of Europe after finishing bottom of their Champions League group.
This means that the success of their season hinges on what they do in their domestic competitions, which is why something has to change in the second half of the campaign.
It has been reported that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is 'increasingly likely' to lose his job but changing the manager is only one potential solution.
Ross Wilson could also save the club's season by dipping into the transfer market in January and bolstering the side with a marquee signing to improve the team.
One player who could come in and make a huge difference to the team's fortunes on the pitch is summer transfer target Evander. Rangers were one of the sides reportedly interested in signing the gem during the summer window, alongside Premier League outfits Fulham and Everton, but he ended up staying at FC Midtjylland.
MLS reporter Tom Bogert is now reporting that the midfielder is poised to seal a $10m (£8.5m) transfer to Portland Timbers at the start of 2023, with the final details and a medical needing to be ironed out before the move becomes official.
Wilson must now act by hijacking this deal as Evander has the quality to be a phenomenal signing for the Light Blues and one that could help them to make the title race more of a fight in the second half of the season.
Speaking to Football FanCast about Evander in the summer, journalist Pete O'Rourke said: "He's got a little bit of Brazilian class as well in the final third."
In ten Superliga appearances this season, the 24-year-old has scored four goals and created six 'big chances', whilst providing 3.7 key passes per match. He has also made 3.5 tackles and interceptions per game and this shows that he excels at both sides of the game, as he is capable of winning the ball back for his side before making a vital contribution at the top end of the pitch.
This comes after he averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.65 and chipped in with 12 goals and six assists in 29 league matches in Denmark in the 2021/22 campaign.
His average SofaScore rating of 7.50 in the current season would place him second in the Gers squad, behind James Tavernier (7.73), and no Light Blues player has averaged as many key passes or tackles and interceptions per match as the Brazilian, with Tavernier (3.0) and Connor Goldson (3.1) topping those stats respectively.
These statistics show that he has the quality to make a gigantic impact on the pitch for the Gers as he could come in and improve Rangers from an offensive and defensive perspective, which could result in an uplift in performances and results from the team.
Therefore, Rangers must hijack Portland's swoop for Evander and strike a deal to sign the wizard before they can get a move over the line.
