Glasgow Rangers have had a difficult start to the season under manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as they have struggled badly in the Champions League.

The Light Blues did brilliantly to reach the Europa League final last season and then qualify for the group stages of the top tier of European football as the Ibrox side beat PSV in the play-off.

However, they have lost all five of their group-stage matches and have only scored once, whilst conceding a whopping 19 goals to Napoli, Ajax, and Liverpool.

They are also sitting second in the Premiership and sporting director Ross Wilson may look to the January transfer window to bolster the club's chances of success in the second half of the campaign.

One player the club are reportedly interested in signing is Blackpool centre-forward Jerry Yates, who is currently valued at around £4m by the Championship side.

The Gers chief could get Ibrox rocking in a swoop for the marksman as he has been in terrific form this season and, at £4m, it would be a statement of intent.

Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan has claimed that the club could afford the transfer and that the supporters would be buzzing with the move. He told Football Insider:

“Rangers have got the money, with the players they’ve sold and the European football – there’s no doubt about that.

“£4million is not a great deal of money to bring in a player who can be prolific for five years. If he can do it in the Championship, he can definitely do it in Scotland.

“Bringing someone in that people have heard of can be a good thing for Rangers. Why wouldn’t he want to go to a club who are likely to be in Europe every season? The fans will be quite happy that they are bringing in someone they have heard of.”

Blackpool's number nine has been on fire in the Championship in England and Gers supporters could be, as Whelan said, excited by a well-known and in-form player making their way to Ibrox.

The 25-year-old has plundered nine goals and two assists, whilst creating six 'big chances', in 17 appearances. He is the outright top goalscorer in the division and is one ahead of the likes of Ben Brereton Diaz, Josh Sargent, and Jay Rodriguez.

Yates is heading into the prime years of his career and has plenty more seasons left ahead of him to hit and maintain his peak, which suggests that Rangers could be picking him up at the perfect time.

His form for Blackpool also indicates that he could be a terrific signing by adding another huge goal threat to the team alongside Antonio Colak, giving opposition teams another striker to worry about.

Therefore, Ibrox supporters would be buzzing if Wilson is able to strike a deal for Yates in January as, on paper, the marksman would be a phenomenal signing.
