There has been a lot of change at Glasgow Rangers so far this summer, with six new signings arriving at Ibrox, while Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo have both completed moves away for significant transfer fees.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has worked quickly to replace the Nigeria internationals, with Ben Davies arriving from Liverpool as cover for the defender, while Malik Tillman and Tom Lawrence will hopefully fill Aribo's boots.

Ridvan Yilmaz is also expected to join the club as a replacement for Bassey at left-back, as currently Rangers have just Borna Barisic available as a natural in that position.

However, the Croatia international has been linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer and if does depart, Van Bronckhorst will need a replacement to compete with Yilmaz for the starting position.

One man who has been linked with the Gers is Northampton Town left-back Ali Koiki. According to Football Insider, Rangers are competing with Derby County to sign the 22-year-old after his impressive campaign with the Cobblers.

The former Burnley man would feature 46 times across the season for Northampton as they narrowly missed out on promotion back to League One, contributing one goal and three assists, averaging a strong 6.84 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the regular campaign.

Given that Northampton play their football in the fourth tier of English football, Koiki is also unlikely to set Rangers back too much this summer.

While Barisic has always excelled going forwards in his spell at Rangers, he has often looked suspect defensively, but Koiki's strengths of dribbling and tackling suggest that he can be a threat at both ends of the pitch.

When he signed on loan for Bristol Rovers in the 2019/20 season, manager Ben Garner was full of praise for him, saying:

“Ali is a player that we have tracked for a long time ... he is a quick & powerful player who is defensively strong but who also provides a strong attacking threat.”

Therefore, he could be a great replacement for Barisic if he leaves Ibrox this summer, and at 22 he still has plenty of time to improve as a player, so could be excellent competition for Yilmaz in Van Bronckhorst's side next season.
