Rangers: Aaron Ramsey not considering second spell at Ibrox

Rangers have been hit with a major setback over midfielder Aaron Ramsey this week…

What’s the talk?

According to Italian outlet Calcio Pillole, via the Daily Record, the Wales international is not interested in joining the Glasgow giants for a second spell next term. He is not considering another deal with the Gers and will head back to his parent club this summer.

The Daily Record has also carried a claim from Gazzetta dello Sport stating that the midfielder may not play again this season due to the hamstring injury he sustained in the Scottish Cup on Sunday and his loan spell could be cut short before the end of the campaign.

Has Ramsey been a good signing?

Supporters will be gutted

The Gers supporters will be gutted by these updates for multiple reasons.

Firstly, they will be frustrated with the player’s reluctance to come back to Glasgow for the 2022/23 campaign as it is a huge transfer blow. Despite his injury issues, he is a quality player and has shown flashes of brilliance in his time at the club since arriving in January.

He has scored two goals and provided one assist in ten matches for Rangers, with both of his strikes coming within his three Premiership starts for Gio van Bronckhorst. When fit, he has been able to make an impact in the final third with his ability on the ball and his career statistics suggest that he would be able to sustain it over the course of a season if he maintained his fitness.

Ramsey scored 65 goals and provided 65 assists in his time at Arsenal and then managed six goals and six assists in 70 games for Juventus. This shows that he can be a consistent threat at the top end of the pitch and that is why fans will be fuming with his current stance on a return.

What nationality does Mateusz Zukowski represent?

The Ibrox faithful will also be gutted with the latest injury update. For the reasons listed above, losing the Welshman for the rest of the season will be a huge blow to van Bronckhorst’s side.

Rangers are still competing in the Premiership, the Europa League and the Scottish Cup and will need as many of their top players available as possible to give them the best chance of picking up silverware. Ramsey’s statistics for the Gers and throughout his career suggest that he is one of the top players at the club and that is why his absence is a worrying setback ahead of the final month of the campaign.
