Rangers could replace Morelos by signing Semenyo

Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been off the boil so far this season. Having suffered an injury whilst on international duty towards the tail end of last term and missing the final month and a half, he spent the summer undergoing rehabilitation.

Since returning to the Ibrox first team, he has only scored three goals this season and his poor form has contributed towards the Light Blues’ woeful start as they sit nine points behind Celtic in the chase for the Premiership title. This eventually led to Giovanni van Bronckhorst being sacked last week after some poor form.

Mick Beale has now become the new Rangers manager and he faces a challenge of epic proportions to get the club back on track and ahead of Celtic.

The January transfer market is just around the corner, and the 42-year-old will surely have had a think over possible signings, especially with who can potentially replace Morelos, with his contract expiring in the summer.

Antoine Semenyo could be the dream man in that department, with Rangers reportedly readying a £5m offer for the Bristol City striker and Ross Wilson must launch a move as soon as possible for the player.

He is about to enter the final few months of his contract and Bristol City appears to be keen on a sale in order to recoup some money as opposed to losing him for nothing in the summer.

The 22-year-old has four goals and an assist this season, one more than Morelos and he is even taking part in the World Cup, selected for the Ghana squad having scored his first international goal in a warm-up match against Switzerland.

Can you guess this current Rangers star from his career record?

Nigel Pearson – Semenyo’s manager at City – has lavished praise on the striker, saying: “He is a real threat with his power and pace – he must be a nightmare to play against! His challenge now is to keep developing and adding elements to his game to make him even more effective.”

This is the type of player Beale urgently requires going forward into a new era at the club; young and talented individuals who are ready to take the step up and continue developing while hopefully generating millions of profit in the future.

Antonio Colak is the club’s top scorer this season with 14 goals, and with no one else hitting double figures, the club needs to sign someone else to take the burden from the Croatian during the second half of the season.
