A key Auchenhowie update has emerged on Rangers and their plans for midfielder Joe Aribo...

What's the talk?

Transfer insider Pete O'Rourke has revealed that the club wants to extend his terms, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. Although, he has also admitted that all of the power is in the ex-Charlton man's hands at the moment.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Rangers would love to tie him down to a new contract. But the longer his contract drags on without him signing, it puts the player in pole position."

Buzzing

Gio van Bronckhorst will surely be buzzing with this news as it shows that the club are not resigned to losing Aribo in the summer or in 2023.

They have not settled for cashing in on him at the end of the current season or allowing him to leave for nothing at the end of his contract, as they are still hoping that he will put pen to paper on a new deal.

It could be a difficult situation for the club to handle in August if he has still not signed an extension. Rangers would be risking him leaving on a free transfer, on a pre-contract in January 2023, if they decide to keep him next season without reaching an agreement as other clubs could swoop in for him.

This is why van Bronckhorst will be delighted with the club's stance as it stands. They are still trying to secure his future at Ibrox and the Dutch head coach could look to intervene and convince the player to remain in Glasgow to maintain the strength of his midfield options next season.

Aribo has been in fine form this term and keeping him could be a major boost to the side. In the Premiership this season, he has produced seven goals and four assists for the Gers as he has consistently shown that he can have an impact at the top end of the pitch by scoring and creating goals.

He has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.14 in the division. This also shows that he is delivering quality displays on a regular basis to go along with his goal involvements, which suggests that he has been a crucial player for the club. Therefore, van Bronckhorst will surely be desperate to keep hold of him and hoping that Ross Wilson is now able to reach an agreement with the player.
