Steven Gerrard's hopes of bringing Siriki Dembele to Ibrox have seemingly been handed a boost after he was left out of Peterborough United's squad to face Luton Town in the Championship on Saturday, which suggests that an exit could be on the cards for the reported Rangers target this summer.

What's the word?

Rangers have regularly been linked with a move for the exciting winger, along with their Old Firm rivals Celtic, and it seems as if he is destined to leave the Posh before the transfer window is up.

The Championship side have already transfer listed the 24-year-old after he entered the last year of his contract at London Road and he was completely omitted from Darren Ferguson's squad as they were beaten 3-0 by Luton Town in their first game back in the second tier on Saturday.

Should Rangers sign Dembele?

Whilst Rangers are arguably well-stocked on the wing, with the likes of Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala, Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright all likely to play regular football this season, the Gers' last two performances suggest that they do need more squad depth, as well as someone who is capable of turning a game on its head.

Dembele certainly possesses that ability, as he showed on multiple occasions for Peterborough in League One last season, helping them win automatic promotion to the Championship.

The 24-year-old would make 42 appearances in the league, contributing an impressive 11 goals and 10 assists, which helped him average a superb 7.32 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

The Scotsman can also play up front if required, with Ferguson lauding his performance as a striker back in 2020, saying:

"The boy has been absolutely outstanding since realising he can play as a central striker. He destroyed Ipswich last weekend with a goal and two assists."

Therefore, there seems little to suggest that Dembele couldn't be a success in Rangers' side this season and with Transfermarkt valuing him at just £1.08m, he could prove to be a bargain option for Ross Wilson this summer, so he should be working hard to bring him to Ibrox.
