A big update has emerged on a Glasgow Rangers target and their chances of moving to Ibrox during the summer transfer window...

What's the talk?

According to the Evening Standard, Billy Gilmour has been sent away from the Chelsea first-team as Thomas Tuchel has decided that he will not be part of his plans for the 2022/23 campaign.

The report claims that he has been left out of their pre-season tour ahead of an exit from the club and could now leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis, although a loan move has not been ruled out.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Rangers hold an interest in their former youth team midfielder and could make a swoop for him, with this latest claim giving them the green light to pursue a transfer.

Imagine him and Ryan Jack

The Light Blues must now take advantage of his availability to bring him back to Ibrox as he could form an impressive Scottish connection with Ryan Jack in the middle of the park.

Gilmour showed signs of promise on loan at Norwich in the Premier League last term, making 2.4 tackles and interceptions per game, whilst also creating one chance per match.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig once called him an "amazing talent" and Graeme Souness previously lauded the £28k-per-week gem's quality, saying: "He doesn't give the ball away. He's got that fantastic habit for a midfield player of passing the ball to the same colour shirt. He keeps the ball in tight spaces and kept Scotland ticking over.

"He's a fabulous little football player and when you factor in that last season he only made five starts in the Premier League for Chelsea, he's not played a lot of football and he came into what was a hothouse of a game - high tempo, loads of pressing - and he managed to stay there."

Jack, meanwhile, caught the eye during Rangers' run to the Europa League final last season. He played nine matches in the competition and made 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game, whilst completing 84% of his attempted passes and making 0.6 key passes per game.

These statistics show that both of the Scotland internationals are capable of winning the ball back on a regular basis in midfield. They also have quality on the ball and can dictate play with their passing and ability to create chances for their teammates from the number six, or eight, role.

Now, imagine both of them linking up alongside each other in Gio van Bronckhorst's team in the Premiership and, hopefully, Champions League next season.
