Rangers are believed to be pressing ahead with more summer transfer business, despite having missed out on potential target, James McAtee.

What's the word?

The Ibrox outfit had reportedly been interested in signing the highly-rated 19-year-old on loan from Manchester City, although the playmaker has since opted to make the temporary switch to Football League side, Sheffield United.

Despite that disappointment, journalist Pete O'Rourke has now suggested that all is not lost for the Old Firm giants, with further incomings potentially on their way to Glasgow.

In an interview with Football FanCast, the respected source stated: "Obviously it seems that McAtee is on his way to Sheffield United so I'm sure they will be monitoring the transfer market elsewhere to see what is available and see who they can possibly bring in to try add to the squad, because I think Giovanni van Bronckhorst isn't done yet in this transfer market.

"He would still like to bring in further players to the club to try and improve his squad".

More to come

That news will no doubt be a source of great delight to supporters, with it looking as if Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is not content with the business that his side have done thus far, despite bringing in seven new additions to help bolster his squad.

In truth, the Dutchman is right to be demanding further reinforcements having seen a handful of key figures depart the club so far this summer, with the likes of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo having joined Ajax and Southampton respectively.

Equally, the Scottish Premiership side's worrying display in their crucial Champions League, first-leg qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek has laid bare the need for further quality, with it set to prove a tricky task to overturn that deficit.

Failure to do so will likely have an impact on any further deals this summer due to the economic hit of missing out on the group stage for the second season running, although the hope will be that sporting director Ross Wilson can still act astutely regardless to help bolster the club's domestic campaign.

A 2-1 comeback victory over Livingston in the season opener at the weekend proved that there remains a strong spirit in this Rangers side, although all will be aware that it could prove a stern test to try and wrestle the league title back from bitter rivals, Celtic.
