The Ibrox outfit had reportedly been interested in signing the highly-rated 19-year-old on loan from Manchester City, although the playmaker has since opted to make the temporary switch to Football League side, Sheffield United.
Despite that disappointment, journalist Pete O'Rourke has now suggested that all is not lost for the Old Firm giants, with further incomings potentially on their way to Glasgow.
In an interview with Football FanCast, the respected source stated: "Obviously it seems that McAtee is on his way to Sheffield United so I'm sure they will be monitoring the transfer market elsewhere to see what is available and see who they can possibly bring in to try add to the squad, because I think Giovanni van Bronckhorst isn't done yet in this transfer market.
"He would still like to bring in further players to the club to try and improve his squad".
