Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping to build on his first trophy as a manager of Glasgow Rangers in the 2022/23 campaign.

The Dutchman won the Scottish Cup last season after missing out on the Premiership title and losing in the final of the Europa League.

He will now be hoping to compete, and be successful, on all fronts in 2022/23, and that may require some work to be done in the summer transfer window.

One player that the club have been urged to sign is Barry Ferguson's nephew Lewis, who is reportedly being lined up for a £2m move to Serie A outfit Lecce.

Former Hamilton owner Ronnie MacDonald has backed the 22-year-old to be a great fit at Ibrox if he were to go there, saying: “He was their (Aberdeen's) midfield enforcer when he’d just turned 19 years of age. If there was a hole in their team, he was the one they’d look for to fill it. But he’s a terrific lad with a great attitude and he’d have done it without questioning it. As a person and a player, Lewis is a diamond.

“He’s captaincy material and, when I look at him, he looks like a Rangers player and captain-type to me. Considering his family background, I can’t understand why there hasn’t been interest from them in him. But if he’s going to go to Italy, the best of luck to him."

Ross Wilson must now hijack a deal for Ferguson and bring him to Ibrox, as he would be a dream partner for Ryan Jack in the middle of the park.

If Van Bronckhorst wants to persist with a 3-5-2 formation in Europe, John Lundstram can slot into centre-back and the Gers can line up with Jack and Ferguson behind Glen Kamara.

The Aberdeen man would provide a big attacking threat from midfield after scoring 20 goals in the last two Premiership seasons combined. He has proven that he can chip in with goals to support the attack, whilst Rangers' Scotland international can provide metronomic passing to control the game from a deep-lying position.

In the Scottish top flight last term, Jack completed 88% of his attempted passes and 94% of those in his own half, demonstrating that he is a reliable player in possession who can build play for the team by consistently finding team-mates with his passing ability.

He also made 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game in the Europa League, showcasing his the ability to screen the defence. This means that he can be a defensive anchor in a 3-5-2 formation, winning tackles and keeping the play ticking over to allow Ferguson to burst forward and join in with the attacks to make the most of his talents.

Therefore, they would make for a dream duo in midfield, and that is why Rangers must stump up the £2m to make it happen.
