Glasgow Rangers have finally secured a deal to sign Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin following a topsy-turvy pursuit, and even though Michael Beale has his man, it might not be the end of the January transfer business at Ibrox.

Indeed, the Rangers boss has already confirmed that he is looking for another defender, saying: “I would like to add another centre-half to the squad and I think we’ll be looking at the goalie situation in the summer as well as looking for another No 9."

The Ibrox manager also refused to rule out a move for Millwall centre-back Jake Cooper, and with Rangers having a prior interest in the defender dating back to when Steven Gerrard was taking his first tentative steps into the world of senior management in Glasgow five years ago, it’s clear that Beale knows the player well.

The 27-year-old's current contract expires in the summer, which could open up an opportunity for the Gers to seal a deal for him before tomorrow night's transfer deadline, and he could become a potential heir for Connor Goldson.

The latter has been a rock at the heart of the Rangers defence for the previous four-and-a-half years, making almost 250 appearances; and with three years left on his contract, it’s unlikely that he will leave anytime soon.

He did suffer his first major injury at Ibrox this season, however, with a hamstring problem keeping him out for 11 matches and as he gets older, such absences could become more commonplace.

Cooper would make a fine heir to Goldson, with the 6 foot 7 titan impressing for Millwall this season, achieving a Sofascore rating of 6.97/10 in the Championship. With four goal contributions, it’s no wonder that Paul Heckingbottom dubbed him a “threat” earlier in the campaign.

Defensively, the 27-year-old is a machine, winning 65% of his aerial duels and utilising his frame to excellent advantage while also making 1.4 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per game, along with starring in a team which has kept ten clean sheets in his 27 league appearances.

The £10k-per-week colossus would be a welcome addition to the Rangers first-team, and signing him would be a deal just shy of five years in the making for the Light Blues.

The next 24 hours could prove to be quite intriguing, with Beale finally starting to assert his own stamp on a squad during his first transfer window as manager at Ibrox.
