Rangers facing potential Ryan Kent exit

Rangers could be heading for a potential disaster in the near future, amid reports that forward Ryan Kent is keen on a departure from Ibrox.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the 25-year-old has turned down the offer of a bumper new deal from the Old Firm side, having seemingly ‘set his sights’ on making a move to the Premier League.

The report suggests that the former Liverpool man – who has just under a year remaining on his existing deal in Glasgow – is ‘confident’ of firm interest in his services from clubs south of the border will emerge in January, or at the end of the season.

The Englishman had been linked with a reunion with former Gers boss Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa in the recent window, while Leeds United have also been touted as a potential destination in recent times.

Aribo 2.0

The Scottish Premiership side are no stranger to losing their top talent to English clubs, having seen Nigeria international Joe Aribo make a move to Southampton over the summer, joining Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side for a reported fee of just £10m.

That relative bargain fee came about as the midfielder also had just a year remaining on his contract at the time, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side seemingly at the mercy of their star players running down their deals at the club – with Alfredo Morelos also facing an uncertain future at present.

In the case of Kent, were he to follow a similar path to the aforementioned Aribo it would no doubt be a sizeable blow to the former Feyenoord boss, with the £18k-per-week gem having dazzled in recent seasons.

The “sensational” ace – as previously lauded by Gerrard – has racked up 185 games for the club over the past four years, scoring 31 goals and laying on 51 assists in that time having proven himself a real crucial asset at Ibrox.

Last season proved particularly profitable for the £15.75m-rated speedster as he recorded 19 assists in all competitions, while he has also begun the new season in fine fettle with one goal and four assists thus far.

How many signings did Rangers make in the last summer window?

Losing such a devastating attacking presence – either in the winter window or next summer – would pose a real setback for Van Bronckhorst and co, with the club’s recent recruitment record suggesting they may find it hard to replace him.

Equally, the Scottish giants will be fearful of a trend emerging if Kent follows Aribo in being tempted by life in the Premier League, with concerns over whether others will attempt to follow suit.
