Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale did not make wholesale changes to his squad during his first window in charge in January as he brought in just two new signings.

Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin came in on permanent deals and the English boss may now already have one eye on his plans for the summer transfer window.

A host of first-team stars are out of contract at the end of the season and one player who could need to be replaced is Scotland international Ryan Jack.

The 30-year-old is poised to be a free agent in June and it remains to be seen whether or not he will put pen to paper on an extension with the Scottish giants.

Who could replace Ryan Jack at Ibrox?

Ross Wilson and Beale could replace the Scot by acting upon their reported interest in Panathinaikos defensive midfielder Dimitris Kourbelis.

Rangers have reportedly been looking at the Greek and they could snap him up in the summer to alleviate the impact of Jack's potential exit.

He is also out of contract with his current club in the summer and this means that the Light Blues could sign him for nothing - replacing their midfielder without having to spend a penny in transfer fees.

Jack, who was once hailed as “outstanding” by The Athletic's Jordan Campbell, has been a solid performer in the Premiership this season. He has averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.88 across 17 appearances in the division - making 1.8 tackles and interceptions per match and winning 50% of his duels in the middle of the park.

Kourbelis, who was once lauded as "superb" defensively by journalist Josh Bunting, has averaged a score of 6.87 in the Greek top flight across 20 outings this season.

The gem has made 2.1 tackles and interceptions per game and won 51% of his battles, which suggests that the 29-year-old could offer a similar level of defensive quality to Jack in midfield.

In possession, the Greece international, who has been capped 30 times by his country, has completed 87% of his attempted passes and created 0.8 chances per match for his teammates - creating two 'big chances' in total.

Jack, meanwhile, has provided 1.1 key passes per appearance and produced one 'big chance', whilst completing 90% of his passes in the Premiership and this indicates that they are also similar in what they offer on the ball in terms of their reliability and creativity in their passing.

The Panathinaikos enforcer, however, could also provide a leadership boost as he is his current team's captain and could, therefore, have a big impact on the pitch and in the dressing room.

If Kourbelis can adapt to Scottish football and replicate his performances in Greece then the 20-year-old would be a terrific addition to the side and an excellent replacement for Jack, if the Scotsman opts against signing a new deal with the club, from a footballing and financial perspective.
