A Rangers claim has emerged regarding the Glasgow giants' attempts to add to their squad in the upcoming transfer window...

What's the talk?

Journalist Lahcen Senhaji has claimed that the Gers are in talks over a deal to sign a Brazilian forward ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

He tweeted: "Rangers and AS Monaco are in negotiations with Flamengo for Lazaro. More details to come..."

Vital Rangers cite him as a reputable reporter and French outlet Homme Du Match have since dropped their own report claiming that both clubs are in talks over a deal for the winger.

Gio van Bronckhorst will be excited

The Ibrox head coach will surely be excited by this claim, as Lazaro would be an excellent addition to his squad this year.

Van Bronckhorst will also be buzzing with the speed at which Ross Wilson is looking to conduct the club's business this summer. The transfer window does not open until next Friday but he is seemingly already in talks to add the Brazilian midfielder to the team.

Getting deals done as early as possible will give the Dutch head coach the chance to work with them throughout pre-season, instead of trying to integrate them three or four games into the campaign.

Lazaro would be a superb signing for the Premiership side because he has already shown flashes of quality and has the potential to get even better in the future. He has already racked up 39 first-team appearances for Flamengo and chipped in with three goals and seven assists from midfield.

The gem has also scored two goals in three outings for Brazil at under-17 level and is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt - more than Fashion Sakala, Scott Wright, Kemar Roofe, and John Lundstram, among others.

At the age of 20, he is in the infancy of his professional career, which means that he is a player with whom Van Bronckhorst can work over the course of a number of seasons.

This is why the 47-year-old will be excited by this potential signing, as Lazaro is a player that he can get satisfaction out of helping to fulfill his potential at Ibrox, having already showcased his promise at club and international level in Brazil.

Therefore, Wilson must beat AS Monaco in the race for his signature and ensure that the Brazilian gem is taking the next step in his development whilst playing for the Light Blues next season.
