Rangers: Alfredo Morelos attracting interest

Glasgow Rangers‘ misfiring striker Alfredo Morelos could be in line for a potential January exit from Ibrox.

What’s the word?

According to Fanatik, the Rangers forward is believed to be on a shortlist of potential attacking options for Fenerbahce, alongside former Celtic man Moussa Dembele and Atalanta marksman, Luis Muriel.

The report suggests that the Istanbul outfit are eyeing a January swoop for one of those targets, although could also be open to securing a pre-contract agreement ahead of a potential summer move.

The report adds that the Gers hotshot – whose current deal in Glasgow is set to expire at the end of the season – is bottom of the list with regards to Fenerbahce’s preferred pick, although Jorge Jesus’ side could well make a move for the 11-cap brute if they are unable to tie down the other two names mentioned.

Van Bronckhorst can ditch him

This interest could well prove an opportune time for under-fire manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst to finally ditch the former HJK Helsinki forward in the New Year, with Morelos having become something of a problem figure in Glasgow of late.

While previously something of a talisman at the club prior to his season-curtailing injury at the end of last term – having scored 115 goals and laid on 52 assists for the Old Firm outfit in 243 appearances to date – the 26-year-old has looked a shadow of his former self since his return, scoring just three times this term.

Following a summer in which the £33k-per-week dud was heavily linked with an exit due to his contract uncertainty, the 5 foot 10 powerhouse has been something of an unwanted headache since then as far as his manager is concerned, notably being dropped from the squad back in August amid concerns over his fitness and attitude.

Amid the club’s collective struggles – having slipped nine points behind in the title race and endured a miserable, record-breaking Champions League campaign – Morelos has been a constant source of frustration, with journalist Graham Spiers cuttingly describing him as a “pub amateur” following his limp showing in the defeat to Napoli at the end of last month.

Can you guess this current Rangers star from his career record?

Pundit Alan Hutton was just as critical of the £11.3m-rated man’s performance following the frustrating draw at St Mirren at the weekend, stating that the striker looked as if he was “sulking” on the day, with his all-round display having been “really poor”.

With Van Bronckhorst needing to drastically spark some sort of improvement when club action returns next month amid the constant speculation over his future, the 47-year-old could well be best served ditching his ailing asset as soon as possible once the market re-opens, with it hard to see just what Morelos is offering at present.
