A fresh twist has emerged on Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, regarding Newcastle's interest in his services.

What's the talk?

According to The Mirror, the Magpies may avoid a swoop for the Gers boss as they do not want to make enemies in the game by poaching a manager from a 'rival club'.

The report claims that they rate Gerrard highly, but could now move for out-of-work Eddie Howe instead of trying to snatch a manager off another team as they look for a replacement for Steve Bruce.

Over the moon

Rangers fans will surely be over the moon with this update from The Mirror as it appears to suggest that Gerrard will not be exiting Ibrox anytime soon, for Newcastle at least.

The Magpies' new owners are aiming to be respectful of other British clubs following their takeover from Mike Ashley and the Gers could now benefit from that if it means that they do not pursue a deal for the ex-Liverpool man.

Recent reports had claimed that Gerrard was one of the leading candidates to replace Bruce at St. James' Park, which would have left fans feeling rather concerned about his future. The prospect of taking over at a Premier League club with funds to make a splash in the transfer market may have been enough to tempt him to leave Scotland, but that is not an immediate concern now following this latest claim.

With Newcastle looking elsewhere, Rangers could enjoy Gerrard in the dugout for the rest of the campaign. The club are currently top of the Scottish Premiership and won the title last term, which suggests that the Gers - domestically - could not improve too much further in terms of the manager. The former England international has been able to lead the Glasgow giants back to glory and is on course to secure back-to-back titles.

This is why Rangers fans will be over the moon with this news regarding Newcastle's stance on Gerrard. They will surely want the Liverpudlian to remain at Ibrox to give them the best possible chance of beating away Celtic's title challenge to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
