An insider has dropped a big Glasgow Rangers claim on Nikola Katic and his future at Ibrox during the summer transfer window...

What's the talk?

The agent of the central defender, Mladen Kliskinic, has revealed that the Croatian international is set to remain at the club beyond the end of August.

He told Scottish Express Sport:

"We believe Niko will be staying in Glasgow. He has a contract with Rangers so he does not need to leave.

"We have not had any suitable offers from any other clubs."

Supporters will be gutted

Supporters will surely be gutted by this claim as it suggests that Katic will remain at the club until January, at the earliest, despite being one of the fringe players in the squad.

The dud is reportedly on £9k-per-week at Ibrox and that wage now looks set to drain Ross Wilson's budget for the foreseeable future, without much chance of the club being rewarded on the pitch.

Katic appears unlikely, at this stage, to break into Gio van Bronckhorst's first team for the 2022/23 campaign as he is behind a number of players in the pecking order.

Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, John Souttar, Ben Davies, James Sands, and John Lundstram are all capable of playing at centre-back and that means that an injury crisis would be his only chance of getting a look-in in the coming months.

It has been reported that the club are willing to part ways with him this summer, which also confirms that he is not in van Bronckhorst's plans for the upcoming season. Therefore, he is a player that Wilson will not be wanting to keep hold of, as they would be wasting wages.

Rangers would be shelling out £9k-per-week on a centre-back who appears unlikely to get on the pitch at any point in 2022/23. He is surplus to requirements and fans will want to see him moved on so that there are no excess players at the club who are not playing an important role on the pitch.

Therefore, they will be gutted that the central defender appears set to stay in Glasgow beyond the end of the summer transfer window. The supporters will now be hoping that his wages do not have an impact on what Wilson is able to offer potential targets between now and the end of August, or in January.
