Rangers have been linked with a loan move for Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour ahead of next season and after his superb performance for Scotland against England at Wembley on Friday night, Ross Wilson should sign him for Steven Gerrard's Ibrox outfit this summer.

The Gers have regularly been mooted with a move for the 20-year-old, who began his career at Ibrox before completing a move to Stamford Bridge when he was just 15-years-old.

Understandably, the Scotland international has not been a regular with the West London side during his time with the club, making just 22 appearances for the senior side in his four years at Stamford Bridge.

Last season saw the promising youngster make just 11 appearances in all competitions for Thomas Tuchel's side and it seems unlikely that he will be able to break into the German's side much next season when you consider that he is competing against the likes of Jorginho and N'Golo Kante, who were both instrumental as Chelsea won the Champions League.

Therefore, a loan move certainly could be on the cards for Gilmour, and where better than a return to Rangers, where he would compete in a side that will challenge for the title, as well as potentially earning some more experience in the Champions League.

His performance against England in the Euros for Steve Clarke's side on Friday emphasised his immense quality, as he rightly earned the man of the match award, whilst Dutch left-back Patrick Van Aanholt likened his performance to that of Gilmour's Chelsea teammate Kante.

He was also lauded by former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, who dubbed him a "top, top player" on his social media, so it seems clear that he is destined for a huge future in the game, and a loan spell with Rangers could really help him take his game to the next level.

If Gilmour were to arrive at Ibrox next season and regularly produce the same level of performance he showed at Wembley, then he would surely be a huge hit in Gerrard's side, and that is something that the former Liverpool midfielder would absolutely love.

Wilson should definitely be looking to bring him in this summer.
