Rangers: Ryan Kent attracting interest from Europe

A worrying Glasgow Rangers transfer claim has emerged on Ryan Kent’s future at Ibrox ahead of the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Bundesliga outfits have shown an interest in the Light Blues midfielder and predicted that he will receive offers to leave Glasgow in 2023.

The attacker is out of contract at the end of the season and will be able to put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with a foreign side in January.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I remember there was a couple of good clubs in Germany that I was told were interested in signing him.

“So, you would imagine he’s going to get some really good proposals in the coming months as we get towards January.”

Nightmare for Ross Wilson

The Gers sporting director is currently heading for a nightmare scenario with Kent as losing him for nothing would be a major blow to the club, from a financial and footballing perspective.

In terms of the finances, the winger leaving on a free transfer would stop Rangers from recouping any money for his services. It was previously reported, by Football Insider, that the player has a £20m release clause and that the club rejected a bid in the region of £10m from Premier League side Leeds United in the past.

These figures illustrate the kind of money the Light Blues would be missing out on if Kent were to leave for nothing at the end of 2022/23, which is why it would be a disaster from a financial sense.

From a footballing point of view, losing the Englishman would be a gigantic blow to Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The forward has been a crucial player on the pitch at Ibrox for a number of years and that has not changed this season.

Kent has scored once and provided four assists in seven Premiership matches this term, taking his tally to 24 goals and 29 assists in 108 games in the competition.

What nationality does Mateusz Zukowski represent?

He also caught the eye in Europe last season as he scored once and set up five in 13 Europa League outings as Rangers made their way to the final, only to lose to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The winger, who was once described as “unplayable” at his best by journalist Andrew Dickson, has proven that he is a constant threat out wide with his creativity, regularly delivering assists for his teammates, and that is why his exit would leave a big hole in van Bronckhorst’s squad.

Therefore, Wilson allowing his contract to run down this far and being unable to agree a new deal for him as it stands, means that the sporting director is heading for a nightmare with German clubs potentially eyeing up a swoop in 2023.
