A claim has emerged on Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent and what a new contract would mean for the squad...

What's the talk?

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has claimed that Gio van Bronckhorst would greatly benefit from the Light Blues being able to agree fresh terms with the Englishman.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Ryan Kent has shown that he is one of Rangers’ top performers.

“I think there’s been lots of speculation around his future and maybe moving away, so if they can get him on a new contract, that would be a huge boost for van Bronckhorst this season.”

The Gers head coach confirmed, at the end of last month, that the club are speaking with the winger about extending his stay in Glasgow, saying:

“Ryan’s abilities and qualities are on a high level. Talks with him are happening at the moment to extend his contract.

“The same with Alfredo. Hopefully they can sign new contracts that will keep them at Ibrox for longer than this season."

Ibrox would be rocking

Whilst Kent putting pen to paper would be a boost to van Bronckhorst, a new deal for the winger could also leave the fans inside Ibrox rocking with joy.

Ross Wilson could delight the fanbase and put them on cloud nine by reaching a conclusion to the seemingly ongoing talks with the former Liverpool man.

The Rangers faithful have had to watch Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey leave the club for Southampton and Ajax respectively this summer and pinning Kent to a new contract could show the fans that they are not heading down the same path with him.

He currently has less than a year to run on his deal and, as it stands, he will be able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January. Supporters, particularly after the two big sales this year, would surely be frustrated with Kent leaving for nothing next year, which is why they would be rocking if Wilson can secure his future at Ibrox.

That delight is only backed up by his remarkable performances on the pitch for the Gers. Journalist Andrew Dickson once called the Rangers star "completely unplayable" and his statistics last season suggest that was the case at times.

In the 2021/22 campaign, Kent racked up an eye-catching three goals and 20 assists in all competitions. No Rangers player managed as many assists as the attacker, with captain James Tavernier coming second with 17.

This illustrates the impact he can have from out wide with his creativity and that, coupled with the statement this deal would send to supporters, is why Wilson could leave the Ibrox faithful overjoyed by pinning down the £18k-per-week maestro to a new contract.
