Glasgow Rangers could be in for a hectic end to the summer transfer window as they deal with Alfredo Morelos' situation.

The Light Blues forward was recently omitted from the squad to face PSV in the Champions League after Gio van Bronckhorst decided that the 26-year-old did not have the requisite mentality to be involved.

Morelos has one year left on his contract at Ibrox and it now remains to be seen whether or not he will still be a Gers player come Friday.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have been linked with a swoop for the Colombia international, and cashing in on him would leave a space in the squad for another striker to come in to challenge Antonio Colak.

Ross Wilson must now reignite the Premiership club's interest in Sunderland centre-forward Ross Stewart, as he could come in to replace Morelos if the latter departs.

It was previously reported that the Scotland international was the number one target to come in if the South American gem left earlier in the summer, and the Light Blues chief must now act on that by swooping for him.

At the time of that report, it was claimed that the English side wanted to pin down the forward to a new deal. Like Morelos, he is out of contract in 2023 and the Gers could attempt to snap him up so that Sunderland can avoid losing him for nothing next year.

Journalist James Copley described Stewart as "sublime" earlier this month, while former Sunderland boss Alex Neil previously heaped praise on him, saying: "He's pretty much a complete striker in that he can run, he can take it in, he can score a goal, he's good in the air. When you look at all the facets of a striker, there's normally always one that [a player] isn't particularly good at.

"If you've got a big target man, for example, often they are not very mobile; if you've got someone who's quick, they struggle to take the ball in and link the game. But I think that Ross has got all the attributes that you need to be a top striker."

These comments suggest that Rangers would be signing a player with all the attributes needed to lead the line on his own, much like Colak has been able to do this month with seven goals in eight matches.

Black Cats captain Corry Evans recently dubbed Stewart - alongside centre-forward team-mate Ellis Simms - a "threat", and the 26-year-old's statistics in the second tier of English football back that up.

He has averaged a superb SofaScore rating of 7.38 - higher than any of the other players in their squad - in six Championship appearances this season, scoring three goals and setting up another two. Since making the move to Wearside, he has racked up 32 goals and seven assists in 71 outings in all competitions.

Stewart has shown that he can score and create goals on a regular basis, and at the age of 26, he still has plenty of years left ahead of him to improve even more.

Therefore, he could be a strong prospective addition to the Light Blues' squad, as could provide a big threat in the final third if he can adapt to the Premiership, and that is why Wilson must reignite the interest in him amid the uncertainty over Morelos.
