An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their deal for Ibrox attacker Malik Tillman...

What's the talk?

The Athletic's Jordan Campbell has revealed that the Light Blues will be able to sign the USA international permanently without any other teams being able to swoop in.

He Tweeted: "Rangers have an exclusive option to make Malik Tillman’s loan a permanent deal. Bayern will then have the option to re-buy him at a higher price. Figures at Bayern say he’s so highly rated they wouldn’t give his future away. Really smart deal by all."

The reporter added: "It is a type of deal Bayern have done with their top talents in recent years. It’s possible that a very successful season with Rangers could see the Scottish side trigger their option to buy and then Bayern trigger the clause to bring him back."

Ross Wilson masterclass

The Gers sporting director has played a masterclass with this deal by structuring it in a way that is a win for Rangers however you look at it.

Firstly, if the worst comes to pass and Tillman suffers a devastating injury or his form drops off a cliff the club can send him back to Bayern Munich and do not have to sign him permanently. This prevents them from being left with a player they do not want come to the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Secondly, the exclusive option that Wilson has negotiated is a brilliant piece of work. It means that the Gers will be the only team capable of signing him next summer and that means that they do not have to worry about any other clubs coming in to snap him up ahead of them.

The gem, who has racked up 70 goals and assists for Bayern and Rangers at youth and senior level in his career, has enjoyed a fantastic start to life at Ibrox since making the move from Germany.

Gio van Bronckhorst described him as an "epic talent" earlier this month and his performances in the Champions League and Premiership have backed that up.

In Europe, he scored the crucial goal to win the tie against Union Saint-Gilloise and set-up the winning goal for Antonio Colak against PSV to secure the club's place in the group stages of the competition.

Meanwhile, he has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.25 in the Scottish top-flight, which places him fifth in the Gers squad.

These statistics illustrate how impressive he has been for the club and that is why the option to sign him was a fantastic decision by Wilson.

Finally, the deal is a masterstroke by the Gers chief as Bayern's option to re-sign him means that they could make an instant profit on Tillman.

If the USA international has a good enough season to convince the German giants to bring him back then Rangers could sign him permanently and sell him back to them whilst receiving a pay-day, which they could then use to strengthen the squad.
