Rangers have now held positive talks over a potential swoop for the Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell and the player is favouring a move to Ibrox.

What's the latest?

Cantwell's future at Carrow Road has been left up in the air with just six months remaining on his current deal with the Championship side.

This means the player is now free to talk about a potential move away from Carrow Road with any non-English side ahead of the summer.

And Rangers are believed to be one of the sides showing an interest in him this month with Dharmesh Sheth reporting the Gers have already held positive talks.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth has suggested the 24-year-old would be keen on a move to Glasgow but it is not yet clear whether this would be a deal for now or the summer:

"Rangers want to sign the Norwich midfielder and they've held positive talks as well. No official bid has been made yet.

"Remember Cantwell has got six months left of his contract and he's free to speak to clubs outside England. So that's why he can speak to Rangers whether that would be for a deal in this transfer window or on a pre-contract agreement in the summer we'll have to wait and see."

"Cantwell, we think, favours a move to Ibrox ahead of the other options that are being presented to him."

Open to Ibrox move

It has been a testing number of weeks for the Englishman who has not featured for the Canaries since early December and has been told to find a new club by manager David Wagner.

Cantwell's struggles have been there for everyone to see this season having not made a start in the Championship since early November (via Transfermarkt).

Although Cantwell has made nine starts in the league and racked up 858 minutes of action, the midfielder has failed to provide a single goal or assist.

"Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he has not made the progression everyone had hoped," Wagner told the BBC.

And now it seems as if there is only one way the 24-year-old will find himself playing regular football again and that is through a move away from Norfolk with a number of clubs believed to be interested.

But he has shown plenty of potential in the past with the 2019/20 campaign seeing Cantwell play frequently in the Premier League and provide a return of six goals and two assists.

And this will be a player who Michael Beale will be all too familiar with from his time managing in the Championship, so ou would like to think the Englishman is adamant he can get the best out of Cantwell.

However, it is apparent there is work to be done with the midfielder, but he is still young and a move away from his current environment could make a big change.
