An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their attempts to keep right-back Adam Devine at Ibrox...

What's the talk?

According to Football Insider, the Light Blues have now reached an agreement with the young full-back and are now set to seal a new contract for him.

The report claims that his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2023 and this move secures his immediate future at the club.

He is now set to put pen to paper on fresh terms that will see him remain in Glasgow until the summer of 2025, penning a two-year extension.

Future star

This news will come as a huge boost for Gio van Bronckhorst as the young defender has the potential to be a future star for the club.

His current contract situation leaves him able to depart the Gers at the end of the current campaign on a free transfer, which is why this agreement is particularly important. It secures his place in Glasgow and means that the manager does not have to worry about the prospect of him signing a pre-contract in January or leaving next summer.

Keeping him will delight van Bronckhorst as the youngster has shown signs of being a player with the scope to develop into an asset.

It has been reported that the club believe he has the quality to become a first-team regular in the future and this is impressive given that James Tavernier is the current occupant in his position. The Gers skipper, who has scored 86 goals and assisted 109 in 356 games for Rangers, is under contract until 2026 and turns 31 in October.

This suggests that the coaches at Ibrox feel like he could be the long-term successor to the Englishman, which highlights his high potential.

Van Bronckhorst has clearly seen something that he likes in him as he handed the young prodigy two appearances in the Premiership last season, with one of those coming in the starting XI.

He only turned 19 in March and the Dutch head coach is slowly integrating him into the first team, with five outings on the bench - without coming on - in the current campaign.

Journalist Craig Vickers previously dubbed him a "powerful runner" and he has shown glimpses of being able to provide attacking quality to go along with his running. He racked up an eye-catching five assists in nine games from right-back in the UEFA Youth League and Trust Trophy last term, which demonstrates that he has the ability to deliver end product at the top end of the pitch.

This suggests that he could be an exciting player for the fans to watch down the right flank for many years to come, assisting goals and bursting past players with his speed - making him a potential future star for the Gers.
