According to reports in The Mirror, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is considering making a shock loan swoop for Everton attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Mirror report that while the 38-year-old has made the Glasgow giants into Scottish Premiership title contenders, he is still not satisfied with certain areas of his squad and is keen to strengthen during the January transfer window.

The Liverpool legend in particular, as per The Mirror, wants to add some more creativity to his team, which has led him to express an interest in the Toffees’ England U21 international.

The 21-year-old has only featured on two occasions – both in the Carabao Cup – for Gerrard#s old arch-enemy this term, as he has found himself behind more established first-team stars like Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies in the pecking order.

Would he be a good signing?

Based on his time with Everton it's impossible to tell, but Dowell proved during a loan spell with Nottingham Forest during the 2017/18 campaign the quality he has in his locker.

The attacking midfielder scored 10 goals and provided a further five assists, as per Transfermarkt, in 43 appearances in all competitions, and that is the exact output Gerrard is looking for in the final third.

The arrival of the 21-year-old at Ibrox would certainly be bad news for the likes of Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield, who have generally flattered to deceive from an attacking point of view for the Gers this term.

While Gerrard may be a great rival to Everton, there is no doubt that they will believe that Dowell would improve north of the border under his guidance, and in that respect a move is a bit of a no-brainer for Marcel Brands and Marco Silva.
