Angus Gunn could be perfect replacement for Craig Gordon at Celtic

As reported by The Sun, Celtic are interested in signing Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn this summer, who is currently on loan at English Championship side Norwich City.

What’s the story?

With Craig Gordon now 35 years of age, Dorus De Vries even older at 37 and Scott Bain not yet a permanent signing at the Hoops, there are marks about who will be the trusted shot-stopper at Celtic over the next few seasons.

Many fans see the position as a priority this summer and it appears that the Hoops are in the market for a new number one after reports in The Sun.

The paper reckon that Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing Angus Gunn from Manchester City, a player who has impressed on loan in the Championship this term.

Rated at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, he’d likely be with Celtic’s budget and given their good working relationship with Man City, it’s a move that appears to make sense.

The report does state that the Hoops will face competition from Stoke City, but can Rodgers convince him his future lies in Glasgow?

Is he any good?

Angus Gunn has been a stand-out for Norwich this season and although the ambitious Canaries haven’t managed to maintain form throughout the season, the shot-stopper has helped them concede less goals than every other side in the bottom half of the table.

In fact, he has kept 15 clean sheets in all competitions which isn’t a bad record at all, a number that would likely only increase at Celtic.

If the move comes off it would be reminiscent of Fraser Forster’s signature, who spent time on loan at Norwich from a Premier League club before having a famous spell at the Hoops.

With a growing reputation and U21 caps for England, the future is bright for the 22-year-old and he could well be the perfect option for Celtic to replace Craig Gordon.
