The first British side to ever win a European Cup, Celtic have this week been celebrating the 50th anniversary of their historic triumph in Lisbon and last night held a film premiere on the special occasion.
The Lisbon Lions, as they became known, were a force to be reckoned with in the 1966/67 season as they won every competition they entered, losing only two games all campaign, with the highlight being their European Cup success.
What makes the success so remarkable, and arguably better than any other British side’s triumph in Europe, was the fact that Celtic’s entire team was Scottish and was born within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park.
Fighting back from 1-0 down against Inter Milan, the favourites to win the competition, Celtic emerged 2-1 victors and put their name in history – and fans had the chance to meet some of the heroes of the evening last night.

The victory put Celtic on the map in Europe, helping to establish the Scottish giants as the household name they are now, and the commemorative book and DVD is now on sale.
