According to Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, Celtic are favourites to re-sign former centre-back Jason Denayer as a replacement for wantaway Dedryck Boyata, and fans of the Bhoys on Twitter were excited by the prospect of the youngster returning to Glasgow.
Denayer has bee contracted to Manchester City since 2013 but has never made a first team appearance for the current Premier League champions, instead being loaned out on four different occasions.
His first loan move away from City was to Celtic in the 2014/15 season during which the Hoops won the league and the league cup, with Denayer’s impressive performances alongside Virgil van Dijk earning him the individual honours of the Scottish Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year and Celtic’s own Young Player of the Year.
Denayer made 44 appearances that season and scored an impressive six goals. Now 23-years-old, the Belgian has had slightly less successful loan spells with Sunderland and Galatasaray, but Celtic fans on Twitter were keen to welcome him back. Check out some of the best tweets below.
If Celtic are interested in Jason Denayer, I’d drive to Turkey myself to pick the boy up.

To be fair there’s many good quotes from Denayer about Celtic. He told Roberts to join the first time around because of the how good the club is. Also better than any CB we have. Sign him up @CelticFC

Yes. Better than what we have. Still very young for a defender but with plenty of experience already. Would slot in straight away as knows our game up here. And comes with good resale options if wants to leave in few years after doing a badly needed job for us. No downsides here.

He improves our defence so has tae be a yes

I shall accept if we don’t have any choices. He was quite good, cool head and better than Jozo! Him and Ajer as partnership will be better than our current!

Yes. He’s had a few bad moves since leaving us but he’s still at a good age, a move back here and playing under BR could get him back to form.

Who knows if any player wants a move, the secrecy around Celtic transfers is part of the problem. Personally I think Denayer would be a tremendous signing., he’s the best CB i’ve seen at Celtic after VVD in the last 15-20 years
