As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are closing in on sealing a £9m move for striker Odsonne Edouard after a successful season on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017/18.
The figure smashes the Hoops’ current transfer record of £6m, which was paid for John Hartson way back in 2001 when Martin O’Neill was in charge of the club.
Sky report that Celtic have until Saturday to conclude a personal agreement with the forward or their exclusive arrangement with the Paris Saint-Germain will expire.
Edouard scored 11 goals and created four assists last season, emerging as a viable option to be a long-term replacement for star striker Moussa Dembele after sensational goals against rivals Rangers.
The £9m fee is expensive for the Hoops, but fans are delighted with the imminent deal regardless, with some believing they could double their outlay in the future if he continues to progress under Brendan Rodgers.
Supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
Considering celtic received about £7.5m from the Van Dijk transfer £9m for edouard is pretty good
Would like to think we still have another £10m to spend on a few players

Don’t know how folk can be turning their nose up at Edouard even if it’s for the £9m that’s been thrown about, proven in the time he’s been here, shown qualities that can help us in Europe even against the bigger teams and is only 20 so we could make around £20m back in 2/3 years

When you look at the crazy transfer fees being paid for very mediocre players in the EPL. Celtic reportably paying £9m for Odsonne Edouard, a young class striker with massive potential, is a no-brainer???

Edouard would be a class signing whether it’s £6m or £9m who cares least we’re splashing out for once!

£6-9m for a talent like Edouard is simply a better way to play the market than spending a quarter of that on the likes of Balde, Pukki & Ciftci. Potential to sell in future for a huge profit as well as the time we get him for makes the intial outlay worthwhile.

Boom! Tom Rogic 5 year deal, £9m for Edouard, £4m for lights.
That's how you do proper business.
We welcome the chase. ?? https://t.co/rGHQd4DVke

I think we've all been duped by this obsession of how much a player is signed for. I'm more interested in how good that player is. I think Edouard is great, so I hope he signs, the fee doesn't particularly interest me.

Personally delighted with edouard signing! Boy is only going to get better and better plus the board are backing Rodgers big time with the fee so happy days #Edouard ??
