Celtic fans have been cross-examining the 2-0 Europa League defeat from Valencia.

Some supporters question the financial gulf between the two clubs, while other fans are left dismayed about a team that under-performed on the big stage.

It's a debate that has been running for years and shows no sign of ending with last night the fifth home defeat that Celtic fans have witnessed in the last 18 months.

That sequence started with a 5-0 defeat from Paris Saint Germain - defeat was expected but the recurring theme is one of the team failing to do themselves justice in the spotlight.

When Bayern Munich visited last season Celtic ran them close, a 2-1 defeat was nothing to be ashamed of with the home-grown trio of James Forrest, Calllum McGregor and Kieran Tierney looking comfortable in that company.

On Thursday no one could say that of the Celtic players that lost to Valencia.

Next weekend, Celtic's season will return to being all about domestic matters but the debate on Europe will be back in the autumn.

Here's a look at what fans have been saying on Twitter...
