Celtic fans were left dismayed by the news that Kieran Tierney will miss the first leg of the Europa League tie against Valencia.

The defender has been out of action for two months due to a hip injury but had seemed on course to face the Spanish side as the Hoops battle for a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Tierney resumed full training last week but sat out the weekend win over St. Johnstone, allowing Jonny Hayes to deputise with Emilio Izaguirre also out injured.

Having been sidelined for two months it would seem unlikely that the plastic pitch at Rugby Park will be the surface to bring the defender back into action on Sunday.

The return leg in Valencia or home match against Motherwell, therefore, would seem the next likely occasions for Tierney to return to action.

Brendan Rodgers did announce that Izaguirre is available to face Valencia which gives the Hoops boss the choice of the Honduran internationalist or Hayes to play at left-back.
