Celtic fans on Twitter were ecstatic after their 5-0 win over league-leaders Hearts brought them to within one point of the Edinburgh club at the top of the table, and huge praise was reserved for midfielder Callum McGregor.
The versatile midfielder started alongside Ryan Christie in one of the two holding roles for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and picked up his fourth assist of the season so far for Filip Benkovic’s header.
The win was effectively sealed for Celtic before half-time as French striker Odsonne Edouard netted either side of the Benkovic goal – his first goal for the club.
In the second-half, James Forrest smashed in a fourth before Christie made it five from the penalty spot with just a minute of normal time remaining.
Celtic looked back to their dominant selves after a poor start to the season that has seen them playing catch up in the league and their Europa League group.
The form of 25-year-old McGregor though has clearly helped with the turnaround and fans of the Hoops on Twitter made it clear how valued he was. Check out the best of the reaction to his performance below.
Callum McGregor in the CDM role allows us to play much further up the park. Ntcham and Brown sit too deep and stop us playing imo. Interesting to see if either walk straight back into the team when fit

Some days craic at the Celtic, Hearts match yday. Tierney, McGregor the two best on show and Sinclair looked busy. Was like a training session at times Rodgers has them that slick. Boat home a bit ropey though!

While some of these grades are too conservative for me (Christie’s better than a 7), look at Callum McGregor.
We’re very blessed to have such a unique player in him. Cost nothing. Low key off/on pitch. Low maintenance. #Celtic fan.
We couldn’t afford to buy a player like him. pic.twitter.com/TfQAkM7Igl

Think McGregor is having his best performances in a Celtic jersey the past few weeks. He’s more direct and his forward passing is spot on

Calum McGregor is the best footballer in Scotland.

Are we seeing Scott Brown’s replacement in Callum McGregor? Celtic looking good without the skipper

Andrea Pirlo = poor man's Calum McGregor #celtic

Callum McGregor is absolute caviar, been playing out his skin. Genuinely think he's going to be celtic and Scotland's most important player for a long, long time
