Celtic fans on Twitter were fuming with Frenchman Moussa Dembele after he joined Ligue 1 side Lyon in a £19.7m move.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed to the BBC on Thursday that the club had rejected a significant offer for Dembele, but the 22-year-old eventually got his move on deadline day.
Dembele is a former France U21 international and netted an extremely impressive 51 goals in just 94 games for the Bhoys following his move from Fulham in the summer of 2016, where he had been since coming through the youth system of current French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The money received by Celtic from Lyon represents a reasonable deal for the Parkhead club, although there was no time for Rodgers to sign a replacement this summer. He did however sign former loanee Odsonne Edouard from PSG earlier in the window.

At least now we can be spared Moussa Dembele’s sanctimonious, self-pitying, drama queen act on social media. He can put away his violin. Outstanding player on his day in fairness to him. Celtic have had a nightmarish time in this transfer window

Can we write Moussa Dembele out of Celtic history and award his goals to Kieran Tierney or something?

Moussa Dembele has to leave. Gutted we didn’t get more, but we need to spend that money to push forward now. There is a change in the gravity within Glasgow now and we need to challenge Rangers on every front

Nice to see that Moussa Dembele continues to force himself out of clubs and into obscurity. A fantastic player on his day but he’s still very young, still very foolish and needs an injection of professionalism pronto…

Celtic can also confirm the money made from this will be kept and not reinvested in the squad.
