Rangers chairman Dave King has called for an independent investigation into SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan and his business links with Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.
The Light Blues chief has also called for MacLennan’s suspension while such an investigation takes place, stating that ‘the credibility of Scottish Football in the minds of supporters and sponsors is at stake and urgent action is required.’
As reported by The Daily Record, the SPFL are adamant there is no conflict of interest.
It’s the latest in a long season of incendiary statements from the Ibrox chairman, with opposition fans growing increasingly amused with each new one that is released.
It’s also the second time in the last week alone that King has called for a probe into Scottish football’s governing bodies.
Celtic fans have reacted about as you’d expect, plenty with humour and others with sheer amazement given the Rangers chairman’s previous clashes with the powers that be in Scottish football.
They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
King railing against issues of non disclosure in Scottish football; yes the same Dave King who sat on a Rangers board engaged in a decade of non disclosure of payments to players, is the biggest brass neck I can think of

Think all of Scottish football should grant Dave Kings wishes & get transparency, we could ask who was on the SFA during the Rangers downfall, the, 5 way agreement, the EBT years the rest, yeah Dave I agree let's clean up Scottish football and see where we go

Dave King is the most toxic thing that could ever have happened for RIFC. So many chances to start again and rebuild and they usher in this shyster. Truly beggars belief.

MacLennan became the non-executive chairman of a company that DD and DO’B are shareholders of in March 2018. I can see why some may think that is a conflict of interest. However, the call from Dave King is the height of brassneckery and clearly in response to SFA charge.

In 2012, Dave King said "We owe both the Rangers fans and the Scottish footballing public an apology. Some of the representations made have betrayed more of a victim status. But I think somebody needs to apologise." What has changed since then, why is he now " a victim" ?

Can only hope that Dave King has a long future as Rangers* chairman.
For as long as he's fighting phony wars to deflect from his club's failings they'll forever be in our shadow.
