As reported by the Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in obtaining young Borussia Dortmund midfielder Junior Flores this January.

What's the story?

Celtic may be have an excellent season but Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to strengthen in January regardless with important European qualifiers coming in the summer before any real business can be done in that window.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rodgers is hoping to bring a long-time target to Celtic Park having previously tried to sign him for Liverpool back in 2012.

Junior Flores chose Borussia Dortmund over Liverpool but has struggled to force his way into the talented Dortmund first team and that's what has alerted Rodgers and Celtic to his situation.

The Sun reckons that the German club are ready to let Flores leave on loan in January, with his contract running out in 6 months, he would then be free to sign for who he likes including Celtic.

Does Rodgers need him?

Rodgers has a track record of developing young talent so it would be a sensible move to bring in younger talent to compliment the first team, especially if Flores is a player Rodgers is familiar with.

Celtic fans have seen plenty of young talent arrive at Celtic Park and not make the grade but with a clear strategy in place under Rodgers and almost every signing he's made so far looking decent, confidence would be high that Flores could develop into a first team player.

Hoops fans are hoping for first team quality in the January window and while Flores might not represent that, there's no harm in investing in the future as well as the present. It does after all seem to be a risk free signing if the deal goes through.
