Celtic boss Ronny Deila has hinted that he’s ready to bring Shaun Maloney to Glasgow for a third spell at the club.
The 31-year-old midfielder started his career with the Hoops before joining Aston Villa, whom he left after just one year to head back north of the border.
His second spell in English football has, however, been more successful, with the playmaker having been one of Wigan’s star turns for some time.
But the Championship side are rumoured to be ready to sell this month as Maloney edges towards becoming a free agent at the end of the season.
A £1m offer from Leicester has already been knocked back by the Latics, but Celtic could make a bid that is more in line with the club’s valuation.
And Deila has revealed that he sees the Scotland international as a “Celtic player” ahead of a potential swoop:
“I am aware of all the Scottish players. Maloney is a good player and he is one we know about. He is at Wigan at the moment but we will wait and see.” He is quoted by the Daily Record.
“I have seen him many times. He is a quick, creative player and he is a very good person with a great mentality.
“He looks like a Celtic player.”
