Celtic are in absolute desperate need of a new right back, and Tottenham’s depth of world class options at the position should have Brendan Rodgers eyeing a loan move for Kyle Walker-Peters.

What's the story?

Despite some rather bizarre links to Real Madrid, Kieran Trippier will be a Tottenham player this season.

The English right back was sensational at the World Cup, and it’s hard to envisage Mauricio Pochettino dropping him for any length of time.

Even if Trippier does take a backseat, the North Londoners have Serge Aurier waiting in the wings, who they signed for around £23m last summer.

With two highly rated and highly valued first teamers fighting it out for the top spot, it seems very unlikely that 21 year-old Walker-Peters will see any game time this season.

That said, Rodgers and Celtic should make a loan move for the youngster, who will be a breathe of fresh air compared to the ageing Mikael Lustig.

Would he be a good signing?

Rodgers’ side were woeful in Greece on Tuesday as they crashed out of the Champions League, and nearly all of the blame is on the defence.

The centre backs look unsure of their roles and positioning, Kieran Tierney isn’t on his best form, but the 31 year-old Lustig is really where all the problems came from in the defeat to AEK Athens.

Rodgers clearly isn’t fond of Cristian Gamboa, which is why a loan move for a player who will inject new life and optimism into the position is needed.

Walker-Peters made his first start at the beginning of last season, crowned man of the match in a 2-0 win at Newcastle. The young full back has electric pace, fantastic composure on the ball and is incredibly mature and intelligent for his age.

He scored his first senior goal in an FA Cup clash earlier this year, and has been hugely successful at multiple youth levels for England. The next step in the youngster’s development is regular senior football, which he simply will not get this season behind Trippier and Aurier.

Rodgers already has experience at the right back position with Lustig and Gamboa, so a loan move for a rising Premier League star makes perfect sense.
