Celtic played out a hugely entertaining clash with Aberdeen on Boxing Day as they ran out 4-3 winners courtesy of a Scott Sinclair hat-trick, with Odsonne Edouard adding the fourth, but the emergence of Michael Johnston could mean that the latter is slowly pushed out of the starting XI - the Hoops should use the Frenchman in order to permanently secure the services of Filip Benkovic.

What's the word?

Well, 21-year-old Benkovic has been absolutely immense under Brendan Rodgers this season and was a part of the side that beat Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup final earlier this month - former Liverpool boss Rodgers is keen to keep the Croatian for the remainder of the season, despite Leicester having the option to recall their loanee when the January window opens.

The Foxes have enjoyed a similarly successful December as they claim monumental victories over Chelsea and Manchester City but have limited striking options beyond Jamie Vardy, who is entering his twilight years - Kelechi Iheanacho has thus far been unable to repay the near £25m that was paid to bring him to the King Power Stadium in 2017 - and Celtic should offer their record signing to the 15/16 Premier League champions in order to retain the services of Benkovic.

Suits all parties

Celtic academy man Johnston has bagged three goals in seven Scottish Premiership appearances as he makes the step up from the youth set-up and, should the 19-year-old continue in this vein, will surely replace Edouard in the forefront of Rodgers' first team considerations.

However, the former PSG man is still a serious talent and could be the key to landing the crucial Benkovic on a permanent deal if they can include him in a player-plus-cash deal - Leicester need a striker and Edouard should be given the opportunity to spread his wings in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has chalked up nine goals and five assists this season in all competitions and his all-round play could make him more of an asset, going forward for Claude Puel and company, rather than Benkovic - the Foxes have a plethora of defensive options at their disposal already.

It would be a huge risk for Rodgers to take but it may be the only way  - what do you think, Celtic fans? Would you approve of such a move? Let us know by voting in the poll below...
