Celtic plotting amazing move for ex-Real Madrid playmaker

Celtic are considering a shock move for former Ajax, Real Madrid and Spurs playmaker Rafael van der Vaart, according to reports from The Scotsman.

The 32-year-old Netherlands international is due to be a free agent in a few months’ time when his Hamburg contract comes to an end, and is likely to leave the German club for the second time in his career.

A skilful attacking midfielder with genuine star quality, Celtic are thought to be plotting a somewhat ambitious move to lure him to Scotland, even though Ronny Deila’s side are relatively well stocked in terms of options in the position.

Van der Vaart played for Spurs up until 2012, whom he joined from Real Madrid two years earlier.

The Ajax youth product has enjoyed a stunning career in which he’s netted 167 goals from midfield.

He’s played against Celtic in the past, featuring for his first club in a Champions League qualifier way back in 2001.
