Reports claim Moussa Dembele is nearing an exit from Celtic, but Brendan Rodgers can replace him immediately by swooping for Dominic Solanke.

What's the word?

According to reports, Dembele has now agreed personal terms with Lyon ahead of a potential exit from Celtic Park.

Fans were fearing the worst when the French striker was linked with a move to Ligue 1 this week, and it seems the lure of Champions League football could bring him to Lyon.

With just hours left in the transfer window, Rodgers and Celtic will act fast to replace the 22 year-old, which is why they should make a loan move for Solanke, who is seemingly already available.

According to reports, Steven Gerrard is still interesting in bringing Solanke to Scotland, and Liverpool’s failures to offload Divock Origi could tempt them into sending Solanke out on loan.

The Gers have already signed Kyle Lafferty, meaning Solanke would likely be the third choice striker. This is why Rodgers should persuade the youngster to come to Celtic, where Dembele’s departure can give him a real chance to shine.

A perfect short-term solution?

Fans may not be happy replacing a man who averages nearly a goal every two Premiership games with a player who scored just once for Liverpool last season, but a loan move could be perfect for all parties.

With Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and now potentially Origi ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order, Solanke would get the chance to revive his career, and it would also give Celtic the season to find a long-term Dembele replacement once Solanke goes back to Liverpool next summer.

The young striker loves using his size and power to battle with opposition defenders, is surprisingly fast for his size, and proved at the U-20 World Cup that he knows where the back of the net is if given the chance to shine.

Signing Solanke wouldn’t be a long-term solution to losing Dembele, but he would score plenty of goals in Scotland, and give the Hoops a year to decide on a proper replacement for their departing Frenchman.
