According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic have agreed a deal to sign ex-Rangers trialist, Andrew Gutman, with the American set to complete a move to Parkhead this month once a work permit has been secured. However, if Brendan Rodgers makes a brilliant loan move for Liverpool's Ki-Jana Hoever, their new signing won't get a look in.

What's the word?

Well, The Scottish Sun reports that Gutman, who impressed playing college football with Indiana University, will join the Hoops in the coming weeks and will provide cover at right-back for the ageing Mikael Lustig.

Having signed forwards Oliver Burke, Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Timothy Weah already, it would seem that Rodgers is keen to turn his attention to reinforcing his back-line and will start by getting Gutman on the books.

However, the 22-year-old would be nothing but a benchwarmer if the Hoops were to move for promising centre-back Hoever, despite the Reds youngster being six years Gutman's junior.

Who is Hoever?

After impressing Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff in training, the 16-year-old became Liverpool's third-youngest-ever player when he was subbed on for Dejan Lovren in the ill-fated Carabao Cup clash with Wolves on Monday.

An injury-stricken Liverpool defence gave the Dutchman the opportunity to show what he is capable of and one assumes it won't be his last appearance in red. The versatile teenager can play at full-back or at the heart of the defence and has drawn comparisons with Virgil van Dijk due to his pace, strength, aerial prowess, intelligence and eye for a pass.

However, with Klopp surely looking to sign another centre-half this month, we may not see Hoever in action for a long time, unless Rodgers approaches with a loan move to give the youngster some minutes.

His versatility, in particular, would make him a huge asset for the Hoops and he would surely demote Gutman to the Under-23's - what do you think, Celtic fans? Would you like to sign Ki-Jana Hoever on loan this month? Let us know by voting in the poll below...
